Memorial Tribute
My name is Irene Chen. I am the eldest daughter of A-Yuan Lee. On behalf of my entire family, I would like to express my gratitude to everyone for taking the time out of your busy schedule to attend. Thank you Pastor Phillip Lee for leading the memorial service for my mother.
My dearest mother was born on January 11, 1928. At the age of 97, she was called by the Lord in her sleep on June 11, 2025. She had two sisters, one brother, and was the youngest of four children. In the era when sons were valued more than daughters, the three sisters were given away to different families. My mother was adopted into a large family. Her adoptive parents had three sons and eight daughters of their own. My mother was smart, neat, considerate, and well loved by her adoptive parents.
My mother grew up around the time of World War II. During the era of Japanese occupation in Taiwan, unmarried women were mandated to be sent to the military to work as nurses. Because of this, when she was 18, her adoptive parents arranged for her to marry Mr. Chao-Ruei Lee, whom she had never met. Since then, she transitioned from a carefree young lady to a housewife responsible to help care for a big family.
After Taiwan was liberated in 1945, I was born. A kind person helped my father get a job at the Sanxia County Department. Employee benefits included living in the dormitory provided for civil servants. We moved out of our big, multigenerational family house and into our own little, but happy home. Mom and dad loved and supported each other. God gave my father a virtuous wife. To ease my family's financial burden, my mother raised pigs and chickens, and helped neighbors sew clothes to supplement our income. In 1952, my adorable sister Pi-Jen Lee was born. She was smart, considerate, close to my parents' hearts, and added abundant warmth to the family .
After I immigrated to the United States, my parents came to visit often and attended Sunday worship with my family. Upon their return to Taiwan, my parents decided to get baptized, became children of God, and walk together on the heavenly road. My mother left behind a legacy of unwavering faith, inspiring her decedents to believe in Jesus, follow Him, and attain eternal life. With great hope, we look forward to meeting her again in heaven.
God blessed my mother with six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The Bible says, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: A time to be born, and a time to die.” My mother's return to her home in heaven was expected and prepared by our Heavenly Father. With tears and reluctance, we accept His wonderful plan. Solemnly, we are open to experience His hidden good intentions. We pray that God will lead us to understand His perspective and find comfort in His great love. We count the Lord's blessings and offer our gratitude to my mother for her love for us.
Dear mother, there are many women of talents and virtue, but you rise above them all. Your are more precious than pearls. Jesus loves you, and we all love you! You are our eternal beloved treasure!
With sorrow and love,
Your daughter Irene
